Michael Burgis, Esq. Managing Attorney
Michael Burgis, Esq., is a knowledgeable, experienced and aggressive trial attorney who focuses on obtaining maximum results for the injured. Mr. Burgis’s current focus is Workers’ Compensation and Employment matters, but his practice also includes handling personal injury cases.
A California native, Mr. Burgis earned a B.S. degree in Economics with a minor in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2003. In 2008, Mr. Burgis earned a J.D. from Southwestern Law School and was admitted to the California Bar.
Mr. Burgis began his career working with Glauber Berenson, a well-known and respected Worker’s Compensation law firm. During his over five-year tenure at Glauber Berenson, Mr. Burgis quickly proved to be a top trial attorney at the firm, setting settlement and trial records. As the result of achieving phenomenal results for his clients, Mr. Burgis was named a Top Attorney in 2010 by Pasadena Magazine.
Mr. Burgis has obtained multiple seven-figure and 100% disability awards for his clients. Mr. Burgis has successfully argued hundreds of cases before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. Mr. Burgis also had the rare and distinct honor of successfully arguing in front of the California Court of Appeals on a 100% permanent disability claim.

Although Mr. Burgis was offered partnership opportunities, he was determined to pursue his own practice where he could utilize his unique and effective approach to litigation. Zhenia Burgis graduated with honors with a B.S. in Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California (USC). In May of 2008, Mrs. Burgis graduated in the top 20% of her class from Southwestern University School of Law, where she was a member of the Southwestern Law Review and received CALI awards in Legal Research & Writing. Mrs. Burgis became licensed to practice law in December of 2008.
From 2008 to 2013, Mrs. Burgis primarily devoted her practice to defending labor and employment related matters in both the public and private sectors.
In April of 2013, Mrs. Burgis joined Michael Burgis & Associates to chair the firm’s Labor and Employment Division. Mrs. Burgis brings the insight and experience of employment defense strategy to the Plaintiff’s side, applying her knowledge and expertise to effectively represent employees who have been subjected to unlawful employment practices, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination. Mrs. Burgis has extensive motion, deposition and courtroom experience; she takes an aggressive approach to litigation to obtain the maximum results for her clients. Mrs. Burgis is also fluent in Russian and semi-fluent in Spanish.
Jesse A. MarinoAssociate Attorney
Mr. Marino has been working in the Workers’ Compensation field since 1986, first as a hearing representative and then as an attorney. His vast experience in this area of the law includes representing both applicant (injured workers) and defendants (insurance companies and employers). He started working for an applicant’s firm in the San Fernando Valley then later began representing several national insurance carriers. In 2004 he decided to hang his “shingle” and opened his own firm.
Another area of expertise is Wills & Trust / Estate Planning. Mr. Marino enjoys the challenges of “trouble shooting” with clients how to best distribute their estates, manage assets, and plan for their minor and adult children’s needs. His motto is “A little planning now can save you and your loved ones from many legal, emotional issues, and costs in the long run.”
Mr. Marino has represented many personal injury clients involved in motor vehicle accidents and slip and falls throughout the years.
Also, he has represented clients with criminal cases involving felony and misdemeanor matters. This include but are not limited to driving under the influence (DUI) and drug offenses (Health & Safety Code violations).

Mr. Lechuga became a hearing representative for MB&A shortly after the firm was established. Prior to his leap to MB&A, he was working for a prominent defense firm, Lewis Brisbois, as a legal assistant. While working at Lewis Brisbois, he was able to learn the strategy and tactics of insurance companies in their attempts to minimize liabilities.
Prior to working for the defense, Mr. Lechuga worked for a very successful Applicants’ firm – Glauber Berenson. He worked for over three years as a case coordinator directly for a partner, Ms. Berenson as well as for Mr. Burgis. He was trained by two of the most demanding and successful attorneys. Simply put – he learned from the best and has become the best.
He started his legal career with the Law Offices of Ruth Prager. He worked for five years as a legal assistant learning the fundamentals in legal pleading and case management.

Ms.Valencia has been serving injured workers for the majority of her career. Her compassion and dedication to our clients makes her an instrumental asset to our practice. Ms. Valencia began her career more than 2.5 decades ago as a file clerk for a San Fernando Valley law firm and worked her way up to Paralegal, representing both employers and injured Workers.
This experience helped Ms. Valencia evolve into a savvy, steadfast and knowledgeable Case Manager for numerous clients, moving cases from beginning to end effectively and efficiently.
Ms. Valencia embodies the mission of MB&A. She brings “recovery” to the injured in every sense of the word. Her focus is on keeping our clients well-informed of the law and the status of their case while instilling confidence that there is truly a person who cares, working tirelessly to obtain the maximum benefits under the law.
Johanna Zamudio began her career in the Workers’ Compensation medical field. In 2013, Ms. Zamudio joined the MB&A team to apply her knowledge and experience to the legal side of Worker’s Compensation. Ms. Zamudio is passionate about the law and loves helping clients in need. She provides excellent customer service and works diligently to coordinate benefits and medical treatment for the injured. She is proficient in her craft and is fluent in Spanish, which is invaluable to many of our clients. She is an impressive person and a delight to work with.
Laura AguilarCase Coordinator
Israel’s customer service skills, more than 10 years of experience in the workers compensation field and attention to detail make him a valuable asset to our firm.
He started working with injured workers at a very young age when employed by the Law firm of Glauber and Berenson where he got aquainted with File Clerck duties, his skills and predisposition achieved him a promotion to File Clerck Supervisor, shorthly thereafter he was promoted to file coordinator and assistant to the office administrator.
Currently he works at our firm as Case Coordinator helping injured workers through all the phases of their cases with utmost professionalism and dedication.
Adelina Gonzalez has worked in the legal field sporadically for over 10 years and has been working in workers compensation since 2008.
In June of 2008 Mrs. Gonzalez started working for an applicant firm Glauber Berenson where she worked for 5 years and learned about the workers compensation system. She handled the front desk reception. She left in July of 2014 to work for a defense firm.
In July 2014 she started working a defense firm Becerra and associates where she learned insurance strategy and way the defense handles cases from the other wide but realized early that the defense wasn’t for her, she wanted to fight for the injured workers right .
In February of 2016 Mrs. Gonzalez started for working for Michael Burgis and associates
Michael Mayoral began his career working as a physical therapy aid and medical historian for a prominent medical facility. In this capacity, Mr. Mayoral worked closely with injured workers and treating physicians, quickly grasping the intricacies of the Workers’ Compensation system from a medical standpoint. In 2014, Mr. Mayoral joined MB&A to expand his knowledge of the law in his quest to help the injured. With his proficiency in the Spanish language, his professionalism and his patience and empathy for the firm’s clients, Mr. Mayoral has been an invaluable addition to the MB&A team. With hard work and dedication, Mr. Mayoral continues to evolve in his knowledge and experience and will undoubtedly improve the lives of many through his journey. His positive attitude and team spirit is an asset to the firm and we are grateful to have him on board.
